The Reliability Architect Tool Goals:

  • Proposes a reliability view of the design or system
  • Helps a system architect select a design approach with a high probability for successful/reliable operation
  • Directs implementation and design reliability efforts
  • Documents the reliability claims of the design
  • Identifies potential sources of failure or low quality
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of design, implementation or application changes for reliability improvements
  • Proposes a basis for validation, testing or diagnosis efforts

The Reliability Architect Spreadsheet will minimize the engineering effort devoted to reliability analysis and also minimize the amount of silicon area and power allocated to implementing reliability features (ECC, IFR). The early reliability budgeting will help avoid unnecessary overdesign.
